Youth Camp

Youth Camp (previously called Discovery Week) is a continuing camping tradition for Southern Oregon children and youth since 1953. Many of our campers come back year after year and eventually share their experience, skills, and fellowship in leadership roles. 

Youth Camp is a five day camp program open to campers ages 9-15 who have completed 3rd-9th grades.   Campers will enjoy most activities with age-appropriate cabin groups that build life-long friendships. Daily adventure activities are chosen by cabin groups, which include swimming, creek hikes, arts and crafts, and archery, as well as outdoor overnight campfires under the stars. 
  
Some activities will be shared by the larger camp community, including community celebrations, meals, worship, and campfire. Counselors encourage participation with skits, games, and songs. 
  
During Youth Camp, campers will build confidence when given many opportunities to develop teamwork and leadership skills. The Christian community at camp is designed to support the faith development of all participants, no matter their background. 

Register by May 5th to receive a $25 Early Bird Discount. 

Important Details To Know Before You Go:

• Check-in at camp will be 3-4pm on Monday afternoon.  Please call the camp (contact information below) if you will be later than 4pm.
• Camp will conclude Friday at 10am.   Family members are invited to come to the gazebo near the parking lot to pick up campers.
• If registering by mail, please send a completed medical form to the camping office (address on form) at least two weeks before the session begins.
• If you have special dietary needs not reflected on the medical form, please contact the camp at least two weeks in advance.

• For registration information, please contact our camp registrar at 503-802-9214 or registrar@gocamping.org.  A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to hold your spot.  This deposit will not be refunded but may be transferred to another session should you need to cancel.  All balances should be paid at least two weeks before camp unless prior arrangements have been made.

Professional and Caring Counselors
At Camp Latgawa we carefully recruit and screen quality counselors and staff to serve as Christian role models in your child’s life. Counselors are chosen based on maturity, responsibility, and their experience working with children and youth.  Counselors undergo annual training sessions to develop a variety of skills including health and safety, safe boundaries, faith development, conflict resolution, and positive discipline.
 
Camp Latgawa also employs young adults each summer to form the backbone of our hospitality. The Summer Support Staff help cook meals, clean facilities, and provide supervision and instruction in activities where additional certification or skills are required such as archery, team building activities, and environmental games. 
  
Health and Safety 
Health and Safety are important at Camp Latgawa. Counselors and staff work in teams to provide a safe camping environment. All Summer Support Staff are certified in first aid and CPR. Certified lifeguards supervise all aquatic activities, and all campers’ swimming skills are verified in a swim test.
 
A nurse or physician is present to care for campers and administer medications. In case of emergency, the local fire department provides excellent services. Camp Latgawa is located just 45 minutes away from two major hospitals.
 
What’s Cooking at Camp Latgawa?
At Camp Latgawa, we nurture campers with healthy, home-cooked, kid-friendly meals. Campers learn about responsibility, stewardship, and the Christian tradition of helping others when they set tables or clean up after meals.

We are experienced in accommodating vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose intolerant and nut-free meals. With your help in letting us know your child’s needs prior to camp on their health form, we will do our best to accommodate nearly all dietary needs.
 
Comfortable Accommodations and Baths
We make sure your child will have fun and be comfortable in one of our rustic cabins. Their cabin will be an important home base where they’ll spend time with their counselors and become close friends with up to six other campers.  The cabins are served by two centrally located shower houses.
