Greetings from the Executive Director of the Oregon-Idaho Camp and Retreat Ministries,
On Friday March 13, Bishop Elaine Stanovsky sent out a letter directing local churches and ministries to cease meetings and gatherings of more than 10 people for the next two weeks due to concerns about the continuing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The Conference offices closed for four weeks (staff are working from home), following guidance from public health officials and Oregon Governor Kate Brown. On Monday Governor Brown banned all events and gatherings larger than 25 people and closed restaurants and bars, except for take-out and delivery. On Tuesday Governor Brown extended the school closure until April 28th. Currently the State of Idaho has banned large group gatherings (50 or more people). As you know by now, each day brings a different element of our attempts to reduce the spread of this coronavirus.
Health and safety are two leading considerations when we address how we meet our mission of “creating sacred spaces of Christian hospitality and learning.” As such we will stay informed about this virus, its risk to those we serve, and we will be prepared to open when it is determined that we can do so.
At the current time we intend to hold our summer camps and retreats. The spring season remains in flux as we follow declarations and guidelines from the states and counties. We are planning to hold the Leadership Training event at Camp Magruder on April 17-19 and the Confirmation Retreat scheduled for April 24-26. We will notify you as soon as possible if there are any changes.
I ask that you take care of yourself and those around you by carefully monitoring your movements and contact with others. If you need guidance on preventative measures, I would direct you to the websites of the CDC, the WHO and your state and county health departments.
We ask that you hold each of our sites and their staff members in prayer as they live with the current restrictions, and not being able to live out our collective mission in the ways that we are accustomed.
May the Peace of Christ be with you,
